FAQs
Do you take my insurance?
VMCC is a private-pay practice. This means that you are responsible for payment at the time of service. If you would like to use insurance benefits, I encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what your “out-of-network” benefits are and to determine if you are eligible to receive reimbursement from your insurance company.
Why would I choose a private-pay practice if I have insurance?
By choosing private-pay, you don’t have to wait until you meet full criteria for a diagnosis that your insurance will cover. You can get started NOW, before it gets worse.
Insurance companies require me to provide them with a clinical diagnosis and sometimes they will request your entire record. This information will become part of the insurance company file and will follow you the rest of your life. Once records are released, I cannot guarantee that they remain confidential.
Some diagnoses can be limiting to future opportunities such as employment options.

I think I’m ready, how do we get started?
Schedule your free 15min virtual consultation so we can meet. I will ask you for your name, date of birth, phone number and email to get you entered into the EHR system. You will receive a portal invitation to complete prior to your first session.

How long is each session?
Most sessions will be 50 minutes in duration. Occasionally, people benefit from longer sessions. This would be discussed prior to scheduling to determine if this option is best for you.
How often will we meet?
I recommend starting with either a weekly or every other week basis. That way we can set our foundation and then decrease the frequency as you progress. We will regularly check in to see what makes sense for you.
How long does therapy last?
This depends on where you are now and what you want to achieve. Some people need more time than others to reach their goals and sometimes goals change along the way. We will regularly check in to see what makes sense for you.
Do you offer in-person, online, or hybrid sessions?
In-person sessions will be located in office at 799 White Pond Dr C, Akron, OH 44320
Online or virtual sessions will occur via Zoom. It is recommended that you use a desktop or laptop computer instead of a phone or table for the best connection.
I do ask everyone to sign a Consent for Treatment: via Telehealth so even if we plan to meet in-person, we still have the option to meet virtually in case something comes up, such as last minute schedule changes or Ohio weather. This can prevent a late cancellation charge.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you inform me as soon as possible so that I can offer that time to another client. There is a $50 late cancellation rate if you cancel within 24 hours.
I do ask that you arrive on time for your session so we can get the full use of our time together. A 15 minute grace period can be offered, however our meeting still needs to end on time and the rate will be the same (as if you arrived on time). After the 15 minute grace period, you will be considered a no show and your time will be forfeited.
If you miss a session without canceling (or arrive after the 15 minute grace period), you are considered a no show and my policy is to collect $100.
What should I expect during the first session?
We will review limits of confidentiality and I will ask questions to gather information based on the information you provided in the client portal. We will discuss what goals you have and what steps we will take toward those goals. I encourage you to ask questions along the way.
